FOUR [late] Games!

I think this breaks the record for lateness, the first 2 games being almost 2 weeks ago. Still, I have the results!

February 13th
Seymour vs. Grizzlies
Final Score:
Seymour 12-Grizzlies 32

February 13th
Hawks vs. Magic
Final Score:
Hawks 34-Magic 21

February 20th
Seymour vs. Heat
Final Score:
Seymour 32-Heat 18

February 20th
Hawks vs. Grizzlies
Final Score:
Hawks 24-Grizzlies 25

Now starting with Seymour vs. Grizzlies. This game was a disaster. We didn't rebound at all. We didn't set enough picks either. We had a really bad day, normally we might lose against them but only by a few points. This was easily Seymour's worst game of the season. However, our next game was better, so it wasn't too bad.

Next, Hawks vs. Magic. This was, I'd say, one of our best games. It wasn't my day but it sure was the day of some other people. We really played good defense. We covered the picks, covered the key while still covering man to man. Overall great game, great defense, great rebounding, and, most importantly of all, we scored the most.

Seymour vs. Heat was a great game. Although at some points we weren't covering the picks well enough, we made up for it in offense. We made lots of great plays, which, result in baskets. We played defense pretty well and also got rebounds a lot. The thing is, however, some of Heat's best players play U-13. The priority is U-13 so, we had some of there best players.

Finally, Hawks vs. Grizzlies. The end was pretty disappointing. We had been leading for around the last 10 minutes but in the 2nd last minute, they scored. This put them up by 1 point. We were scrambling. We had around 40 seconds. Then, with 15 seconds, they stripped the ball from us and just chucked it out of bounds. They don't stop the clock so time ran out while the ball wasn't in play. Still, we don't usually win against the Grizzlies, and we played pretty well.

These were pretty good games, especially for the Hawks. Today(Feb 27) I had a tournament. There were 4 mini games(Only 20 minutes long). I'm going to post results soon, hopefully tomorrow. For now I'm saying nothing about results.

Wizards and Heat...

I'm back for another (late) post.

February 6th
Seymour vs. Heat
Final Score:
Seymour 34-Heat 18

February 6th
Hawks vs. Wizards
Final Score:
Hawks 17-Wizards 40

Well at least Seymour played well. We rebounded pretty well, defended well and shot well. At many points in the game, we defended so well that they were only taking jump-shots. They wouldn't try to drive in for a lay up. This is the ideal way to be playing defense, as while some jump-shots will go in, most won't. There really wasn't a ton to say about this game. We played well and that's that, hopefully we'll play well at our next game.

We didn't play well against the Wizards however. That team is one of the fastest in the league. This means when you are defending if they haven't used their dribble, stand a couple feet back so that they don't drive right by you. We also didn't help out on defense all that much. I think we didn't have very good luck on shots. Anyway, hopefully we'll beat Magic.

Heat and Grizzlies...

Here we go, another blog post. I find it kind of funny how I was against the same two teams as last week. I was on a my other team for both these games though.

January 30th
Seymour vs. Grizzlies
Final Score:
Seymour 22-Grizzlies 34

 January 30th
Hawks vs. Heat
Final  Score:
Hawks 17-Heat 40

First game wasn't good, second game wasn't good. Our rebounding definitely needed work against the Grizzlies. They are also very tall, which meant we would need to use a tactic known as boxing out. This is when somebody makes a shot, you stand facing the hoop between a player and the hoop. You push them out from the hoop. In theory, if the whole team boxed out, there would never be any competition for rebounds. Unfortunately it never does work this way, as usually somebody on the other team avoided getting boxed out. For us however, nobody was boxing out, meaning that they almost always got the rebound. Another thing we didn't do well was at some points we would try and cross pass it. These almost always get intercepted.

Hawks game wasn't too good either. One thing was that we missed a lot of shots. Some shots that are right up close you just can't miss. We missed a bunch of them however. We got picked off a bunch of times as well, while our picks were rarely successful. We had nobody boxing out either as well. They got a lot more rebounds then we did. They have 2 players that are particularly good. We didn't have enough defense against these players, while there were other people that were over covered.

Grizzlies and Heat!

I'm back with two more games. I'd call it a half-win, with 1 win 1 loss.

January 16th
Seymour vs. Heat
Final Score:
Seymour 46-Heat 34

January 16th
Hawks vs. Grizzlies
Final Score:
Hawks 25-Grizzlies 38

The U-13 game was a good game. Early on it was pretty exciting to watch with usually a 2-4 point differance. We played great. Much better than last week. We shut them down on defense pretty well, while making good plays on offense. One thing we weren't doing well was defending against picks and making picks. A pick is when you stand beside a defender so that the person he's defending can dribble around you and go score. We didn't make many picks, but they made a lot. Often when they made a pick, nobody went to defend the open person. In the second half, we really pulled ahead. At the end of the first half, we were losing at 20-16. We made a great comeback, which I think is partially because we made more picks and defended against them better. Anyway, a good game.

On the other hand, the Hawks were a disaster. At least for the first half it was. In the second half we notably defended better.  On the other hand, the first half we defended horribly. They almost always had somebody open for a pass. That team is really tall too. That made it really hard to get a lot of rebounds. While they usually would get a second or third shot if they missed, we would get one shot and if we missed that, it was there ball and we'd get nothing for the play. Anyway, hopefully the Hawks will be better next week.

I'm not going to be at the games, so I won't be making a post next week.

U-13 AND Hawks!

I hope everyone had a merry Christmas and a happy New Year!

I doubt any of you know this but I'm also on the U-13 Seymour team. We ended up just playing in Steve Nash League. Anyway, looking at the games, this is definitely a great start to the year!

January 9th
Seymour(U-13)vs. Grizzlies
Final Score:
Seymour 0-Grizzlies 0

January 9th
Hawks vs. Wizards
Final Score:
Hawks 36-Wizards 16

Unfortunately, there was no score-keeper for the U-13 game, they didn't keep score(duh?). I don't feel that we played all that well, getting out rebounded at points. I still think we would of won by a couple points though. I don't think some of our players had a very good day. There was one exception, who looked amazing on the court. He played like the kind of person that not only plays well, but also looks good on the court. Anyway. we didn't play all that well and hopefully next time we'll play better.

On the other hand, we played excellently on the Hawks team. We were against a strong team, with several players that are also on U-13. They had several fast players, including the person who was the person I was talking about in U-13(Am I allowed to mention names?). I don't really know how we crushed them that badly, I think the score favoured us. Anyway, shot well, rebounded well, defended well. That's generally the key to basketball. It's a lot more complicated then that obviously, with things like ball-handling and passing.

There's the games, it's still a great start, even though our Seymour game wasn't the greatest. I just hope that second game didn't psych us out too much!

Upcoming game:
January 16th
Seymour vs. Heat

PS: We got awesome uniforms for U-13. They are reversible and a shiny blue and white with a sleeveless jersey and shorts. The regular Steve Nash jerseys are an ugly black and white.

Just Another Game

Sorry I'm late, I keep thinking I'm gonna go and make my post but I never did. Anyway here we go.

November 28th
Hawks vs. Wizards
Final Score:
Hawks 22-Wizards 24

Another small loss margin. Anyway, we were up at the end of the first half, but got crushed in the second. We were up  about 20-14 at the end of the first. I think we got bad luck in the second. It seemed like our shots refused to go in. I don't think my team and I have ever done worse, only scoring twice as a team in the second half. I think we deserved to win this.

It seemed like the refereeing was odd. Normally, when there is a foul you get 1 point plus it's your ball on the side. But for some reason all they gave was your ball. I think the foul point difference would have tied or won the game for us. One part of the game was funny to watch, as for some reason they had 6 players at one point. The game went on for a surprisingly long time. Unfortunately I wasn't able to see it, it's hard to see from when you are on the court.

Anyway, we didn't win and that's that. I don't have another game until after the Christmas break. I have no idea exactly when the next game is going to be so don't ask.

Another TWO Games

It's Mitchell again. I had two games today, the second ending around 40 minutes ago. Thought last week's game was as exciting as it gets? Wrong. Today my second game, was one of the most exciting games I've ever played.

November 21st
Hawks vs. Magic
Final Score:
Hawks 36- Magic 22

November 21st
Hawks vs. Heat
Final Score:
Hawks 29- Heat 26

First, the Hawks-Magic game. We did great against them. Excellent rebounding, shooting, and passing. I think the score showed us playing better than we were though. They still played well and we still needed to try hard to beat them. I think that wasn't there game. We've played them before and they did better than today. I scored three times, almost scoring a fourth.

Now, the Hawks-Heat game. Some of this team has been together for two years, this being the third. In all the games I've played against them, I had never won. Until now. Very exciting game, for most of the game it was a one-point difference. It kept going back and forth. Finally in the last five minutes we pulled ahead, with a couple quick baskets. This was more than an exciting game. It went back and forth many times. I scored three times again, two of them being in a row.

Upcoming game:
November 28th
Hawks vs. Wizards
